WASHINGTON (Reuters] – On Thursday, the U.S. Justice Department established an environmental justice office that will oversee cases involving pollution’s discriminatory effect. The agency also said it will use supplemental projects to help polluters in civil settlements.
Merrick Garland, Attorney General, stated at a press conference that the department would tighten and strengthen the rules regarding the settlements’ use of these projects as part of the plan for helping communities most affected by illegal polluting.
