Belarus hands six-year jail sentence to dissident’s girlfriend after forced plane landing -Breaking

(Reuters) – Sofia Sapega was sentenced Friday by a Belarusian court to six years imprisonment for inciting hatred. She had been detained following their last year’s commercial flight.

Russian-born woman, aged 24, was travelling with Roman Protasevich a dissident blogger who was critical of Alexander Lukashenko. The Ryanair flight was going from Athens, Lithuania to Vilnius, May 2021. However, it was diverted to Minsk, Belarusian officials said.
