(Reuters) – Russian Rosneft exported 700,000 tonnes Urals oil from the Baltic ports of Primorsk, Ust-Luga, in May to Indian Oil Corp. (IOC), a country’s largest refiner. Two traders who are familiar with the matter informed Reuters that Friday.

Rosneft has allocated seven loads of 100,000 tonnes to each cargo between May 15-31 to IOC according to the traders.

IOC will be loading the Rosneft-sourced Urals oil quantities from Baltic ports. This is their first attempt. The major buyers for the cargoes in the past were Trafigura and Vitol, trading companies.

International traders may stop buying oil from Rosneft once EU sanctions against several Russian companies take effect on May 15.

Rosneft and IOC signed last December a contract to supply up to 2,000,000 tonnes of Urals oil through 2022.

IOC purchased several Urals cargoes this year from Novorossiisk, a Black Sea port.

The new contract does not include the May supply.

Sources close to Reuters reported last week that Rosneft had been negotiating supply agreements with several Indian refiners, including IOC.

Reuters reached out to Rosneft representatives and Indian oil reps for comments but they did not respond immediately.

India requested state-run oil companies in India to look into the possibility that they might buy the stake of Rosneft in the sanctions-affected Russian company Rosneft. Two sources familiar with this matter told Reuters in April.
