(Reuters) – California’s energy officials said Friday that the state does not have the power capacity to supply electricity during high demand periods.

The state has forecasted a shortage of 1,700 megawatts in this year’s electricity supply. This number could rise to 5,000 MW, depending on how wildfires and extreme heat affect the grid, officials stated during an online briefing.
