Investing.com – Australia stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

After the Sydney closing, the index fell 1.18% and reached a new one-month low.

Polynovo Ltd. ASX: was among the top performers during the session. It rose by 3.33%, or 0.03 points, to trade at 0.93 as of close. Westpac Banking Corp. (ASX) gained 3.23%, or 0.77 points, to close at 24.60. Whitehaven Coal Ltd. (ASX) was also up 2.63% or 0.13 point to 5.08 late trade.

These were the worst performers of the session. News Corp. DRC(ASX:), fell 8.83% (or 2.35 points) to trade at 24,25 at the closing. Megaport Ltd (ASX 🙂 fell 8.56%, or 0.69 points, to reach 7.37. Magellan Financial Group Ltd was at 8.41% (or 1.45 points) to reach 15.80.

The Sydney Stock Exchange saw falling stocks surpass advancing stock by 1310, 258 and 355 respectively.

News Corp. B.D.R.C. (ASX:), shares dropped to 52-week highs. This was 8.83% or 2.35 to 23.25. Megaport Ltd. (ASX) shares fell to 52 week lows, falling 8.66% (0.69 to 7.37). Whitehaven Coal Ltd. (ASX) shares rose to three-year highs, up 2.63% (0.13 to 5.08).

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 14.16% to 19.40 a new 1-month high.

The June delivery of Gold Futures was lower by 0.77%, or 14.45, to $1.868.35 per troy ounce. Other commodities traded included Crude oil, which fell by 1.10%, 1.21, and July Brent oil, which fell 0.96%, respectively, trading at $111.31/barrel.

AUD/USD dropped 0.93% to 0.70 while AUD/JPY declined 0.44% at 91.98.

US Dollar Index Futures were up 0.2% at 104.03.
