LONDON, (Reuters) – Sri Lanka’s short-dated sovereign dollars bonds fell as high as 1 cent Tuesday after deadly protests against the government’s handling the economic crisis. The move came a day after seven people were killed and more than 200 injured.

Tradeweb data indicates that 2025- and 2026-year bonds were traded at 41 cents per USD, which is a deeply distressing level. The gains for longer-dated bonds were modest.

According to JPMorgan’s EMBI Global Diversified index, the premium investors demand to own Sri Lankan debt is now 3,433 basis points. This mark marks its highest level in just three weeks.
