REUTERS/Elizabeth FrantzWASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The U.S. House of Representatives is set to vote Tuesday night on a $40 billion humanitarian and military aid package for Ukraine. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that.
It is likely that the legislation will pass both the House of Representatives and the Senate in the next few days. The bill then goes to the White House to be signed by President Joe Biden, which should ease fears about an interruption of the military aid to Kyiv.
Biden had asked Congress to authorize an additional $33Billion in assistance for Ukraine 10 days earlier. But lawmakers instead decided to bring that figure up to $39.8Billion, increasing military and humanitarian aid.
Pelosi sent a letter to House Members requesting that the bill be quickly passed.
Biden and his fellow Democrats who control the Senate and House of Representatives, as well as Republicans, both said that they supported the Ukraine aid.
