(Reuters) -Air India’s newly acquired owner Tata Sons stated on Thursday that it would appoint Campbell Wilson as chief executive of Singapore Airlines (OTC)’ budget carrier Scoot. This appointment is subject to regulatory approvals.

Wilson, 50 years old, was born in New Zealand. He will be retiring from the current position on June 15, Singapore Airlines announced.

Tata Sons has completed the purchase of an Indian national carrier previously owned by the state in January. They are now searching for an executive that will lead a significant turnaround.

After Ilker Ayci, Turkey’s chief executive of Air India was made to resign following the public announcement of Wilson’s appointment that drew opposition from India due to his past political connections.

Tata Sons stated in a statement that Air India board had approved Wilson’s appointment subject to regulatory approvals.

Before an Indian airline can be appointed as its CEO, it must have the approval of the government.

Scoot will replace Wilson by Leslie Thng (current senior vice president for sales and marketing at Singapore Airlines).
