REUTERS/Gleb GaranichKYIV, Reuters – Ukraine is not going to reopen Sokhranovka’s gas transit route between Russia and European customers until Kyiv has control of its gas transit systems. The head GTSOU said this on Thursday.
This crossing point is where the gas pipeline runs through Ukraine’s Luhansk area, which was under Russian-backed separatists control since 2014. Russia invaded Ukraine in February 24.
Sergiy Makogon, a Russian official in the gas industry, stated that Gazprom (MCX) had enough capacity to ship all its Europebound volumes via the Sudzha transit route. The line remains open.
Gazprom, he claimed, was not aware that Moscow-backed separatists had begun stealing gas transiting Ukraine. Kyiv stated this was why it had declared a force majeure to gas flow via Sokhranovka.
