REUTERS/Toru HansaiHONG KONG (Reuters] – Nomura began offering over-the-counter bitcoin derivatives to its clients on Friday. It is the latest in a series of moves by a traditional bank into cryptocurrency, even when markets are in chaos.
Rig Karkhanis, head of markets Asia ex Japan at Nomura, stated that the trades were executed via the CME platform by cryptocurrency asset trading company Cumberland DRW.
“Working alongside institutional-grade counterparties allows us to scale up into the increasing demands from our clients,” said he.
Global investment banks are looking for more services related to crypto, in response to growing demand from both institutional investors as well as private clients.
The crypto market plunged as the meltdown of TerraUSD, one world’s most important stablecoins caused digital tokens to be swept up during a sale-off of more risky assets.
The Thursday low for the year was $25,400.
