BERLIN, (Reuters) – Germany will provide additional 430m euros ($446.5M) for hunger relief, said the Development Ministry on Friday. The statement confirmed a previous report by Spiegel magazine.

According to the ministry, 238million euros will be spent on education and sustainable agriculture, and another 192million euros are earmarked in the future for the World Food Programme and “One World Without Hunger”.

Global prices of grains, cooking oil, fuel, and fertilizer have soared due to the conflict in Ukraine. The United Nations warned that price increases will lead to an increase in Africa’s food shortage.

Since February, the Russian invasion has caused disruptions in shipping through the Black Sea. This is a key route for grain and other commodities and has throttled exports from Russia and Ukraine.
