TORONTO, (Reuters) – Canada’s competition bureau stated Friday that the decision to commence litigation against Rogers Communications to stop its C$20 billion bid for Shaw Communications (NYSE.) was not an omission and did not hinder the parties from coming to a deal.

According to Reuters, a spokesperson of the Competition Bureau stated that in their application Rogers had proposed certain divestitures in order to resolve our competition concerns. The statement stated that the proposed divestitures would not remove the significant lessening in competition, and each remedy suggestion would be evaluated individually.

According to it, “The initiation of litigation doesn’t prevent the parties or the Bureau from coming up with an agreement to address the competition concerns at any moment.”
