On Saturday, the Group of Seven foreign Ministers pledged to strengthen Russia’s political and economic isolation, supply arms to Ukraine, and help alleviate food insecurity worldwide resulting from the war.
Senior diplomats of Britain, Canada and Germany met at Weissenhaus Castle, a Baltic Sea resort. They discussed the 400-year-old estate.
According to a joint statement, they would address Russian misinformation that aimed to blame the West for global food shortages due to economic sanctions against Moscow. They also urged China not to support Moscow’s war and to stop justifying it.
To put more pressure on Russia, ban Russian oil purchases or phase them out. EU members are expected to agree next week on this issue.
The statement stated that “We will accelerate our efforts to reduce dependence on Russian energy sources and as soon as possible, building upon g7 commitments for phasing out or banning imports of Russian oil and coal.”
