CoinGecko as well as Etherscan have issued alerts in response to ongoing phishing attacks on their respective platforms.

After several users had reported strange MetaMask pop ups, prompting them connect to their crypto wallets, they launched an investigation. Now, some of the information has been released by the companies.

According to the information released, the attack attempts to gain access to users’ funds by requesting to integrate their MetaMask wallets with the websites.

Etherescan revealed further that hackers have been able display phishing popups using third-party Integrations. Etherescan advised crypto investors that they should not confirm transactions requests from MetaMask.

In an effort to identify the root cause for the attack, one member of the crypto Twitter community, @Noedel19, connected the ongoing phishing attacks to the compromise of CoinZilla – a marketing and advertising agency. According to the Twitter user, any site that uses CoinZilla Ads may have been compromised.

Coinzilla hasn’t yet provided an official statement regarding the compromise of its service. But @Noedel19 believes that any company that has ad integrated with CoinZilla is still at risk from similar attacks.

Etherscan disabled third-party integrations on its site in an attempt to control damage.

CoinGecko has also posted a tweet with the text “Security Alert: If you are on the CoinGecko website and you are being prompted by your Metamask to connect to this site, this is a SCAM. Don’t connect it. We are investigating the root cause of this issue.”
