BEIRUT, (Reuters) – Polls open Sunday for Lebanon’s first parliamentary vote since the country’s economic collapse.
Voting began at 7 am (0400 GMT) across 15 electoral areas, and candidates were competing to win 128 seats. The votes will be split between 11 religious groups using a sectarian power sharing system.
Hezbollah, a Shi’ite group heavily armied and supported by Iran won 71 seats in the last election of 2018.
