WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – Voters in Pennsylvania and North Carolina and Idaho hold primaries Tuesday. These primary elections will allow voters to choose their party’s candidates for Congress and other office, shaping the field for November 8th midterm elections.

There are four events to be on the lookout for:

Mehmet Oz v. David McCormick (NYSE:) v. Kathy Barnette

The final week of the Pennsylvania Republican U.S. Senate election has seen intense competition. Mehmet Oz is a TV wellness star who was backed by President Donald Trump. He will be running against David McCormick (a former CEO of a hedge fund).

To add to the confusion, Kathy Barnette, a conservative commentator has given a solid closing performance. In a recent poll of public opinion, the candidates were almost tied.

John Fetterman v. Conor Lamb

Pennsylvania, where incumbent Republican Senator Patrick Toomey is retiring, presents one of the greatest opportunities for Democrats in adding to their slim Senate majority. However, President Joe Biden’s low approval rating could make it difficult.

Democratic voters will vote between John Fetterman (a vibrant progressive who sought to reaffirm his working-class credentials as lieutenant governor) and Conor Lamb (a centrist currently representing a suburban Pittsburgh area in the House of Representatives).

Malcolm Kenyatta, a state legislator could be another factor after challenging Fetterman on his record regarding racial matters in a recent debate. According to polls, Fetterman is leading.

Ted Budd vs. Pat McCrory

In North Carolina, former Governor Pat McCrory (a fiscally conservative member of Tea Party era) is up against Ted Budd (a member of Congress who voted against Trump’s 2020 electoral defeat). Trump has publicly endorsed Budd. Several opinion polls indicate that he is leading McCrory, as well as 12 other candidates.

A runoff will be held on July 26, if no candidate is selected who receives 30 percent.

The contest’s winner will probably face Cheri, a Black woman who was once chief justice at the state Supreme Court. Though Republicans are strongly favored, analysts say that the race may be very competitive.

Madison Cawthorn v. Chuck Edwards

Since January 2021, Republican Representative Madison Cawthorn is a hot topic. Republican colleagues have called him a “thug,” and he claimed that he had witnessed cocaine abuse and been invited by Washington to gogies. He is also accused of sexual harassment.

Chuck Edwards, a state senator, leads seven Republican candidates who are seeking to challenge him. It is located in the mountains west of the state. The seat is safe for Republicans.

Brad Little v. Janice McGeachin

Janice McGeachin has challenged Idaho Governor Brad Little as a Republican primary candidate. McGeachin spoke recently at an event hosted by a white supremacist. Trump endorses McGeachin who has been following Little as lieutenant governor. While Little was away from the state, McGeachin took control of the governorship several times. She issued executive orders banning mask mandates as well as ordering National Guard troops to cross the border with the United States-Mexico. Political observers have been puzzled by Trump’s endorsement for McGeachin, as Little is a conservative and has never had public disputes with Trump.
