LONDON, (Reuters) – Reckitt Benckiser has increased its baby formula production by around 30% and is making frequent deliveries to supermarkets to combat a national shortage of U.S. grocery stores.

Reckitt produces its U.S.-based formula at three locations in Michigan and Minnesota. Robert Cleveland of Reckitt’s senior vice president for North America and Europe Nutrition told Reuters that Reckitt also grants plants unlimited overtime to work extra shifts.

Reckitt said that the company has been able to manufacture 30% more formula since it reduced production time for some products. Reckitt’s time to deliver product has been cut nearly in half.

Since the top U.S. baby formula manufacturer, panicked parents have emptied supermarket aisles of baby formula. Abbott Laboratories (NYSE:) In February, dozens of Similac and Alimentum formulas were recalled by the company.

Following complaints of bacteria infections, products made in Michigan were recall.

Supermarkets such as Walmart have been forced to recall the formula due to a severe shortage that began in late 2013. Target Walgreens Boots Alliance (NASDAQ) and Corp (NYSE) were created to reduce sales of formula. They are putting pressure upon the Biden administration for a solution.

Reckitt was responsible for just under a third the U.S. infant formulation market. Abbott supplied 44%. Reckitt, a British company, told Reuters that it now supplies more than half of the total U.S. baby formula market.

We might normally pack a whole truck before shipping it. We don’t do that for speed. Cleveland explained that they pack the product we can and send it on its way.

Data company Datasembly stated last week that about 40% of the country’s baby formula stocks are out-of-stock.

Reckitt will prioritize states with higher numbers of infants who require its products, as well as low-income mothers, who purchase formula from the Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program (WIC).

Perrigo Co (NYSE.) Plc is a manufacturer of store-brand baby products for retailers like Walmart (NYSE.) Inc (NASDAQ.). Last week, Reuters was informed by (NYSE.) Plc that it anticipates shortages as well as heightened demand for “the balance of the year”.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) on Monday outlined a process by which the agency would not object to the importation of certain infant formula products intended for a foreign market.

The U.S. president Joe Biden met last week with infant formula retailers executives and manufacturers to urge them to help families get access to the product in the face nationwide shortage.

Cleveland stated that the White House began asking Cleveland if he could help with some inputs into his manufacturing process. Reckitt struggled at times to find a mold that would allow him to create packaging.

He said that they have been calling some of the input suppliers to stress the urgency and need for a solution.
