Investment.com — The U.K. jumped to 9% in April This was due to a record-breaking rise in household energy bills.
It rose by 2.5% in the last month. This is the highest monthly increase since 1991. The cap on gas and electricity prices for households was adjusted to reflect sharp increases in wholesale prices due to Russia’s invasion.
Core inflation which excludes volatile food prices and energy prices also rose by 0.7%. This was partly because a rapidly reopening country ran into bottlenecks due to supply chain issues stemming partially from the pandemic. Partly due to a shortage of skilled workers in the EU.
