REUTERS/Maxim Shemetov(Reuters) – After growing 5% during the preceding quarter, the Russian economy grew 3.5% in the first quarter 2022. Data from Rosstat’s federal statistician showed Wednesday.
It is likely that the first quarter was the best with solid growth, before Russia’s decision on February 24 to send thousands of troops to Ukraine brought about sweeping sanctions.
According to the economy ministry, gross domestic product (GDP), is expected to shrink by 7.8% in 2022.
