WASHINGTON (Reuters] – The former U.S. president George W. Bush incorrectly described the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan as “brutal” and “unjustified” but later corrected himself by referring to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Bush made these comments during a speech at a Dallas event on Wednesday. He was also criticizing Russia’s politics.
“The result is an absence of checks and balances in Russia, and the decision of one man to launch a wholly unjustified and brutal invasion of Iraq,” Bush said, before correcting himself and shaking his head. You mean Ukraine.
As the crowd laughed, he joked that he was making a mistake because of his age.
Bush’s presidency in 2003 saw the United States lead an invasion against Iraq for weapons of mass destruction, which were not found. The conflict lasted for many years and resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands. Many more were also displaced.
Bush’s comments quickly became viral via social media. They have received over 3,000,000 views (NYSE:) on Twitter alone, after the Dallas News reporter tweeted https://.
Former President of the United States also made a comparison between Volodymyr and Winston Churchill’s wartime leaders, as well as blaming Russian President Vladimir Putin who launched the invasion in Ukraine.
