(Reuters) – Polestar, a Swedish manufacturer of electric vehicles, has reduced its 2022 production forecast by 15,000 units. It now expects to deliver 50,000 vehicles by Thursday. This was due to COVID-19 lockdowns by China.

In a statement, the maker of electric vehicles stated that “the reduction for 2022 can be 100% attributable the lockdowns China”

COVID-19 lockdowns have resulted in disruptions to supply chains for components and semiconductors used in electric cars. This has affected companies’ ability to manufacture them.

Polestar stated that it, together with partners Volvo Cars (OTC) and Geely Automobile Holdingss (OTC), continues to manage supply chains challenges just as it did 2021 when it shipped around 29,000 vehicles.

Polestar stated that it has added a second shift to its factory, and will recover some production losses later this year. According to the company, it believes that its delivery targets will be met by 2023.

According to the Swedish company, vehicle sales increased by more than twofold to approximately 13,600 vehicles and that orders increased to nearly 23,000 during the first four month of the year. This is compared to 2021’s same period.

“Any short- to medium-term economic effects have not dented our goal of selling 290,000 cars in 2025 – 10 times more than we sold in 2021,” Polestar Chief Executive Officer Thomas Ingenlath said.

Polestar was established by China’s Geely Cars and Volvo Cars. It is now set to merge this year with Gores Guggenheim Inc, a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC).

Hertz Global Holdings (OTC) announced that in April, it was going to buy 65,000 Polestar electric automobiles over the course of five years.
