REUTERS/Rebecca Cook//File PhotoOAKLAND, Reuters – Elon Musk, a billionaire and entrepreneur took to Twitter to decry “utterly false” allegations that he sexually harassed a female flight attendant aboard a private plane in 2016.
Business Insider had reported on Thursday, that Musk’s SpaceX has paid $250,000 to resolve a claim of sexual harassment from an unidentified flight attendant. She claimed Musk exposed himself to her.
An anonymous source claimed that she was the friend of the flight attendant. According to the article, the friend provided a statement in private settlement.
“I have a challenge to this liar who claims their friend saw me ‘exposed’ – describe just one thing, anything at all (scars, tattoos, …) that isn’t known by the public. She won’t be able to do so, because it never happened,” Musk tweeted.
Reuters couldn’t verify Business Insider accounts. Musk and SpaceX have not responded to Reuters’ requests for comment regarding either the Business Insider story, or Musk’s tweets.
In addition to allegedly exposing himself, Musk rubbed the flight attendant’s thigh and offered to buy her a horse if she would “do more” during an in-flight massage, Business Insider quoted the friend of the flight attendant as saying.
According to Business Insider, the flight attendant believed that Musk’s refusal had been detrimental to her chances of working at SpaceX. She hired a lawyer to help her in 2018.
Business Insider reports that the rocket company settled out of court. The agreement also contained a nondisclosure clause which forbid the flight attendant to speak about it. According to Business Insider, the name of the friend and flight attendant was not revealed by the news website.
Musk is the chief executive officer of Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:) Inc. He is currently involved in a dispute over whether to purchase. Twitter Inc (NYSE:) Wednesday’s statement by Mr. Reilly that he will vote Republican, instead of Democrat. This was in response to a “dirty tricks attack” against him.
Musk is quoted in Business Insider as saying that the story of the flight attendant was a political hit piece and that “there was more to the story.”
On Thursday evening, Musk first tweeted: “The attacks against me should be viewed through a political lens – this is their standard (despicable) playbook – but nothing will deter me from fighting for a good future and your right to free speech.” Musk did not mention any of the Business Insider allegations in his initial tweet.
Musk said in another tweet, “And for the record those wild accusations are completely untrue.”
He added that the article was to disrupt the Twitter acquisition.
Business Insider could not reach Reuters immediately for comment.
