(Reuters) – The French head of the carmaker Renault A source told Reuters that (EPA) may return to Japan in June, the second in two months. The news comes as a result of increased talks between Nissan and Reuters (OTC). This could signal a renewed focus on negotiations with Nissan to consolidate its plans to exit the electric vehicle market.

CEO Luca de Meo, could return to Japan for the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance’s next Alliance Operating Board (AOB) meeting, the source said. Sources say that the AOB, which is unusually taking place in Japan at the same time as Nissan’s general meeting in Japan, will take place for the second consecutive year.

De Meo would travel to Japan for the second time within two months after spending several days with Japanese colleagues.

Renault is open to Nissan joining its plans to establish an entity for electric vehicles. This will help improve Renault’s image in the face renewed competition.

Renault and its partner were innovators in electric cars during the first decade of the past decade. But they are now being eclipsed by Tesla (NASDAQ:), and Volkswagen’s ambitions (ETR.
