NULKABA (Australia) – Jan Hugo didn’t realize her childhood dream to become a princess. Instead, she was Australia’s queen for royal memorabilia. She has over 10,000 pieces and plans on growing her collection as Queen Elizabeth celebrates her Platinum Jubilee.

Hugo found her way to Nulkaba from 120 km (75 mi) north Sydney and said: “Your Majesty. If you’re looking, I hope it was a fantastic celebration for you Jubilee. And I wish you many, many more Years as our Queen because I all Love You.”

Hugo has the most extensive collection of royal memorabilia in Australia, having started in 1981 with a commemorative coins celebrating Prince Charles’ marriage to Diana. With over 2,500 items dedicated to her, Queen Elizabeth occupies the majority of this collection.

Pictures of British Royals can be seen on all manner of porcelain plates and teapots. Hugo also has plastic mannequins as well as figurines of her and her corgis.

Hugo is now retired and spends her time caring for her grandchildren.

“She’s just done a wonderful job. What number of people know who have been working in the same position for more than 70 years, and had to perform some duties every day? Like, I think they said there’s only a couple of days out of that 70 years where she’s been too ill to actually do anything,” Hugo said of the Queen.

Hugo met Prince William, who was her favourite royal, and Catherine the Duchess Of Cambridge Catherine in Australia. They also met Prince Charles and Camilla of Cornwall.

However, she never got to meet the Queen and missed her visit to Australia as she couldn’t make it out of work.

Hugo, when she was asked what her family thinks about the collection, said that her father-in law thought she “should go somewhere”.

She said that the girls simply replied “oh no, this is not something we want to do when you die”

“But they love to watch what happens when there are special events or things, and my grandchildren pick out their bits to keep for me when I fall off the perch.”

From June 2 to 2, Queen Elizabeth celebrated seven years as her queen. Four days of “Platinum Jubilee,” events are held in London to commemorate that milestone.
