Reuters obtained an internal memo indicating Tesla’s (NASDAQ:) intention to return production to the pre-lockdown state at Shanghai Giga by Tuesday. It is a day earlier than their latest recovery plan.
It was revealed that Tesla originally planned to achieve pre-lockdown production levels on May 16. However, the target was delayed for a week.
The memo describing the plans states that Tesla will increase its daily production to 2,600 electric cars at its Shanghai plant starting Tuesday. Tesla would have nearly 16,000 EVs per week if this compares with the 1,000 EVs it produced Monday.
The Shanghai plant had been running three shifts before the lockdown. After being shut down for 22 days, the plant opened on a “closed loop” system. The plant continued to have problems securing spare parts, so it was operating in an uneventful manner.
Shanghai’s shutdown has had a devastating effect on Tesla. Tesla’s April sales in China were only 1,512 EVs, compared to 65,754 last month.
