SAO PAULO (Reuters: Nestle SA) announced on Monday that the Brazilian Nestle Health Science unit reached a deal for Puravida organic, natural and plant-based food producer Puravida.

According to the company, Puravida is complementary to their own portfolio. Puravida already sells protein powders and nutritional supplements in Brazil. The new partnership will allow it to grow its local health sciences business.

Marcelo Melchior in Brazil, Nestle’s chief executive, stated, “This is a tremendous opportunity for us, to expand our footprint in a sector which is growing globally… it is important step towards moving in promising market segments, that add innovation, technology, to our nutritional know-how.”

Puravida is a producer of “clean label”, nutritional foods. The company was started in Sao Paulo by Puravida in 2015, and Aqua Capital provided funding in 2020.

Nestle has not disclosed financial information about the transaction, as it still requires Brazil’s antitrust watchdog CADE to approve. However, the deal should close by the end of 2022.
