Uber to expand in Italy through taxi partnership

Uber is being challenged in Italy by taxi drivers for many years. Uber has now signed a partnership agreement with Italy’s biggest taxi dispatch company.

A Tuesday statement stated that the agreement will enable IT Taxi’s 12,000 taxi drivers in 90 cities to accept Uber rides through their app.
This is because Uber and other ride-hailing apps are struggling with a shortage of drivers. As a result, fares have risen and waiting times have been longer.
Uber stated that it would expand its presence to Italy as Europe’s fourth-largest country, thanks to the partnership.

The company was repeatedly opposed by taxi drivers in Italy for years. Taxi drivers protested the company in 2017 alleging unfair competition. The company was also blocked by an Italian court in 2017 over concerns about anti-competition. However, this decision was overturned later.
Its platform will now allow thousands of drivers to use it across the country.
Uber did not disclose all financial terms. According to a spokesperson, Uber charges fixed fees for its taxi services for using the platform. Uber charges 12.5% in Spain.
