LONDON (Reuters] -On Friday, a Conservative lawmaker sent a letter de no confidence to Boris Johnson. Another quit a position as an assistant of Britain’s interior Minister. This puts new pressure on Johnson over illegal parties in his Downing Street home during COVID-19 lockdowns.

Bob Neill is the chairman of Parliament’s Justice Committee. The report, which was issued Wednesday, showed a pattern “unacceptable behaviour” that spanned months of Britain’s coronavirus epidemic. Johnson did not believe his explanations.

“Trust is the most valuable commodity in politics. But these events have undermined confidence not only in the office of prime minister but also in the political process,” Neill stated in a statement. A change of leadership is necessary to rebuild trust and allow us to move forward.

Johnson claimed that Johnson accepted responsibility but would not relent after the report had been issued.

Paul Holmes (a Conservative lawmaker) also announced that on Friday, he had resigned from his position as the parliamentary private secretary at the Home Office in order to concentrate on serving his constituents.

These events have created a profound mistrust of both the Conservative Party and the government. Holmes released a statement saying that it was distressing that Holmes’ work for you has been marred by the toxic culture which seemed to have permeated number 10.

This week, other Conservative legislators stated that they submitted letters to Johnson’s chairman asking for a confidence vote. The party’s 1922 Committee would then be activated if 54 letters of this nature are received.

These letters are kept confidential and only the Chairman of the 1922 Committee can determine how many were actually submitted.

Holmes said to Reuters that he did not write a letter calling for Johnson’s resignation.
