INDIANAPOLIS (Reuters:) On Sunday, Marcus Ericsson of Sweden won a dramatic Indianapolis 500. After a tough two-lap shootout, the Brickyard regained the title of world’s largest single-day sporting event. It is now known as the Greatest Spectacle In Racing.

Six laps into the final race, Jimmie Johnson spun around on the grass to create the largest turn on the oval at 2.5 miles. This brought out a red flag and sent the cars into pit lane.

The debris had been cleared and the drivers were able to return to the track. There was a spectacular two-lap sprint with over 300,000 people watching.

Ericsson, who had just finished a traditional quarter of quarts of milk, said that “I had to complete everything there at end to keep the them behind.” Ericsson: “I cannot believe it. I am so happy.”

Ericsson is a former Formula One driver and becomes the second Swede who has won the Indy 500, after Kenny Brack 1999.
