Reports of monkeypox in non-endemic countries suggests undetected transmission for some time, WHO says -Breaking

(Reuters] – On Sunday, the World Health Organization stated that sudden occurrences of monkeypox in countries not normally affected by it suggests recent amliorating events and undetected transmission.

WHO stated in a statement that 257 cases had been confirmed and 120 cases were suspected from the 23 countries where the virus is not yet endemic.

According to the agency, more cases will be reported as surveillance expands in both endemic and non endemic countries.

The infectious disease Monkeypox, which is often mild and endemic in some parts of central and west Africa is typically mild. Because it is transmitted by close contact, you can easily contain the disease through self-isolation or hygiene. Please see the EXPLAINER.

The UK, Spain, and Portugal are the most common locations where cases have been reported.

The U.N agency stated that “the vast majority” of cases reported so far had no travel connections to an area endemic and presented via primary care or sexual services.
