KATHMANDU (Reuters – Nepal’s Army said Monday that they had found the wreckage of a plane missing Sunday with 22 people aboard.

Narayan Silwal (NYSE:) stated that “Search and Rescue Troops have Physically Located the Plane Crash Site.” He tweeted, “Search and Rescue Troops have physically Located the Plane Crash Site,” and posted a photograph of the wreckage showing the tail number and pieces of the plane scattered around the edge of a mountain.

According to government officials and the airline, the aircraft was a De Havilland Canada DHC-6300 Twin Otter, which was operated privately by Tara Air. It carried four Indians, two Germans, and sixteen Nepalis.

After a flight of 20 minutes, the aircraft lost contact with its control tower.

The plane took off from Pokhara (125 km/80 mi) west Kathmandu and headed for Jomsom (about 80 km/50 miles northwest) which is a tourist destination and pilgrimage spot.

Flightradar24, a flight-tracking website, said that the aircraft registered as 9N-AET made its first flight on April 1979.

Deo Chandra Lakh Karna, spokesperson of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal(CAAN), stated five helicopters were available for rescue.

There have been many air accidents in Nepal which is home to Everest and eight other of the 14 world’s highest mountains. There are often weather changes and it is difficult to get to airstrips.

A flight by US-Bangla Airlines from Dhaka, Nepal to Kathmandu was destroyed when it touched down. 51 people were killed.
