LONDON (Reuters] – Ericsson and BT, a telecoms company in the UK, have partnered to give private 5G networks to British businesses. They will enable them to use Internet of Things quickly and safely.

Public 5G networks can mirror private 5G. However, connectivity is limited to specific areas such as factories, ports, or campuses. This allows for 5G’s security, ultra-low latency, and other services.

Marc Overton was the managing director for BT’s Division X Enterprise. This meant that the British company is working closely with Ericsson of Sweden. Ericsson has been a pioneer in 5G technology and is able to deploy and operate the networks as well as putting apps on top.

They have worked on major 5G projects together, such as Belfast Harbour in Northern Ireland.

The 5G private network has been installed on 35 acres in an operational port. It is enhancing operational efficiency and optimizing processes for transport and logistics.

Overton stated that we are now in phase 2 of the project. This includes teleoperations of heavy machinery and artificial reality (AR), for remote maintenance as well as enhanced video AI and drones for inspection and surveillance.

The new agreement will see the partners focusing on 5G technology deployment in healthcare, manufacturing and transport.
