BERLIN (Reuters – German unemployment dropped in May according to Labour Office figures. This is despite pandemic restrictions being lifted in Europe’s largest economy despite war in Ukraine, supply disruptions, and trade and services benefited.

According to the Federal Labour Office, there was a decrease of 4,000 people without work in seasonally adjusted terms. It now stands at 2.285million. Reuters polled analysts and predicted a decline of 15%.

Detlef Scheele (head of the labor office), stated that “employment continues to grow” and added, “The demand for new workers continues at a very high rate.”

The Labour Office reported that the demand for personnel increased rapidly with 865,000 non-seasonally adjusted jobs being registered in May, which is 211,000 more than one year ago.

According to it, the usage of short-term work and employees who are affected by such work have both declined in recent times.

Seasonally adjusted, the jobless rate was 5.0%.
