REUTERS/Vasily Federosenk(Reuters.) – On Tuesday, Belarus’ largest payment processor reported that there was a temporary outage of cards in Belarus. Some of the country’s major banks have been placed under Western sanctions.
On social media, card holders from across the country shared that they couldn’t withdraw cash from ATMs and that their in-store payments weren’t working.
Belarus’s Banking Processing Centre said that the problem was technical and all cards are now functioning normally.
In Belarus, card payment problems have been a common occurrence since the introduction of sanctions by the United States and the European Union against several banks.
Minsk is being punished for supporting Moscow’s military intervention into Ukraine.
