UVALDE (Texas) – Uvalde, Texas, begins to lay to rest 21 teachers and schoolchildren who died in a school shooting a week ago. Two funerals are scheduled for Tuesday, one for each of two 10 year-old girls.

According to Uvalde’s funeral home websites, Ameriejo Garza was sweet, funny, and loved drawing. Maite Yuleana was an honor student, who loved studying about marine biology and enjoyed the study of whales. Amerie was to be buried Tuesday afternoon at Uvalde Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Maite would take place in the evening at a Uvalde cemetery.

An 18-year-old gunman broke into fourth-grade classes and used a high velocity AR-15 semiautomatic rifle to open fire.

Monday was a race for artists to create a mural featuring white doves along the Ace Bail Bonds building near the cemetery.

Yanira Castillo (34), a Uvalde native, said that the children were “full of life” and had lived there her whole life. That is what a community cannot forget. We will be affected forever.”

In the 16,000-person town of El Paso, nearly 80% of the population is Latino/Hispanic and the majority of the residents are Roman Catholic, a number of funeral services will be held over the next 2 weeks. Services for Eva Mireles (44) and Irma Garca (48) are just a few of the many funerals that will take place.

Jose Garcia, Garcia’s 50-year-old husband, passed away from heart failure two days later. On Wednesday, a joint funeral for Garcia and Jose Garcia will take place. They met at high school.

We will be focusing on families that have lost loved ones on Tuesday. In a statement, Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin announced that the City Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday was cancelled. “We will begin burying children tomorrow.

Pete Arredondo (chief of Uvalde Consolidated Independent Schools District’s police department) was to be inducted as a newly elected member to the council at that meeting.

Arredondo was Arredondo’s on-scene commanding officer. According to state safety officials, Arredondo believed that he would have enough time to stage an assault.

The local police stood outside the school for almost an hour, while children dialed 911 to ask for help. Finally, a U.S. Border Patrol tactical unit arrived and shot the gunman.

The country is still grieving as it considers whether or not to change U.S. gun laws. In Texas, for example, the shooter was able to purchase an AR-15-style rifle legally on his 18th birthday. This happened a week prior to the shooting.

The shooter spent hundreds on ammunition, and bought a second gun in the following days.

Many Democrats, including U.S. president Joe Biden, call for tighter restrictions. Republicans are able to resist gun control and have expanded gun rights in several states in recent years. They claim that gun control does not deprive law-abiding citizens their rights.

Biden supports such measures as universal background checks and a renewed assault weapon ban.
