(Reuters) – Gazprom (MCX) a Russian producer of gas has stopped gas supply to Denmark’s Orsted, (OTC) as well as to Shell Energy (LON) Energy, for its contract to deliver gas to Germany. It cited the inability to pay in roubles by these two companies.

Gazprom already stopped supplies to GasTerra in the Netherlands, and to Poland, Finland, Bulgaria, Poland, and Finland, after they refused to pay in Russian rubles for their gas. This was in response to Western sanctions on Russia-Ukraine.

However, French, German and Italian companies have indicated that they will work with Moscow to maintain supply.

Bundesnetzagentur (Germany’s network regulator) stated Wednesday that Shell Europe was responsible for very small volumes of natural gas supplies that could be obtained from other countries.

Data from Energinet, a Danish operator of the system, showed that Wednesday’s flow to Denmark through Germany remained stable.

The Danish Energy Agency stated that there are no direct gas pipelines from Russia to Denmark. However, Danish buyers do have the possibility of purchasing from sources other then Gazprom.

Gazprom’s key export route to Europe via Ukraine continued with 41.2 million cubic meters of gas on Wednesday. It was slightly less than Tuesday’s volumes.
