LONDON, (Reuters) -Queen Elizabeth stated on Sunday that she was “humbled” and “deeply touched” by the large number of people who came out to commemorate her Platinum Jubilee after four days of celebrations to mark 70 years of British throne.
Tens of thousands have been seen at street parties and parades in central London while millions viewed a live broadcast of a concert from Buckingham Palace.
In her message, she expressed gratitude to the nation for all their support and appreciated the contribution they made.
When it comes to marking 70 years as Queen, there’s no book to guide you. It is an unprecedented first. “But I am humbled and touched by how many people took to the streets in celebration of my Platinum Jubilee,” she stated.
The Queen herself was forced to miss several major events because of mobility issues, but she was able make an appearance on Buckingham Palace’s balcony to greet cheering fans at Sunday’s end of the celebrations.
“Even though I didn’t attend all events in person, my heart was with you all. And I continue to be committed to serving your best interests, supported my my family,” she stated.
“I’m inspired by the warmth, joy, and mutual understanding that have been evident over recent days. This renewed sense of belonging will hopefully be felt for many, many years.”
