Laos is the latest country to explore a digital central bank currency (CBDC), and announced that it will be conducting research in collaboration with Soramitsu, a Japanese distributor of ledger technology (DLT).

An Oct. Report from Asia, the project is expected to begin this month and follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Laos’ central bank and the Japan International Cooperation Agency to study the development of CBDC.
