(Reuters: Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:) is rolling out its regular stream of operating system upgrades for iPhones, iPads or Macs during its annual software development conference Monday. Developers and analysts will be looking for any clues as to how a future mixed reality headset might look.
That headset is likely to use cameras to pass a view of the outside world into a high-resolution display that can overlay digital objects on physical surroundings and could arrive in March of next year, said Anshel Sag, principal analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy. Apple would launch such a device in competition to Meta’s mixed-reality headset, codenamed “Cambria”, which was announced earlier this year.
Sag and other interviewees by Reuters do not expect to get a glimpse at the headset Monday.
They will instead be searching for hidden clues about future devices, such as how Apple’s devices handle augmented reality scenes. Andrew McHugh co-founded Vivid, an app that allows users to virtually walk inside the photos and videos they have created. Apple’s wireless headphones have previously featured spatial audio, which allows users to hear sounds changing as they turn their heads.
Apple could announce its Mac Pro computer’s latest version on Monday. This is for developers or users that require high computing power. The Mac Pro is Apple’s last machine to have a central processor. Intel Corp (NASDAQ:). According to Ben Bajarin of Creative Strategies, the head of consumer technology at Creative Strategies, this machine will likely be equipped with a powerful processor that combines multiple Apple Silicon chips and advanced packaging technology.
Analysts predict that updates to core products, such as the iPad, will be the biggest takeaways of today. Bloomberg reported that Apple is planning to upgrade the device’s operating systems to be more compatible with different apps and to improve its ability to use a keyboard. The move would take into account the fact that iPads of higher quality have more powerful processor chips than Apple’s Mac computers. However, they also have additional features, like touch screens or cellular data connection.
Apple has referred to the iPad over the years as the “computer for all”. It feels like everyone is using the Mac. If that’s the case, where do you take the iPad?” said Tom Mainelli, group president for consumer and device research at IDC.
Apple saw a 23% increase in Mac sales to $35.2 million during its most recent fiscal year. This was due to increased laptop purchases and the introduction of Apple Silicon Chips to power its machines. Bajarin stated that Apple may release new features to make Macs more user-friendly in work environments to compete with PC manufacturers who depend on them. Microsoft Corp Windows operating system.
“I do think we’re on the cusp of an outbreak of Macs in enterprise,” Bajarin said.
Bloomberg reported that Apple may release a new MacBook Air laptop with the new M2 chip. However, some analysts such as Bajarin think Apple could save that launch for later this year, when it typically releases products for consumers.
