NEW YORK, (Reuters) – Harvey Weinstein is currently in prison for sex offences after he was convicted. He sued Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, the U.S. company that owns Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, over a crash in which he flipped a Jeep Wrangler and tried to escape a deer.

Weinstein claims he is seeking damages of $5 million. Weinstein claimed that he was “catastrophically hurt and rendered paralyzed in the accident at suburban Bedford, New York on Aug. 17, 2019” as well as with “significant and ongoing pain and suffering.”

The New York State Court in Manhattan filed a complaint stating that Weinstein was not wearing his seatbelt as the brakes of the 2017 Wrangler broke while he approached the deer. This caused a rollover.

Weinstein stated that FCA US LLC, the defendant in the case, had given him the “unreasonably risky” vehicle in exchange to product placements in one of the films.

Bedford lies approximately 40 miles (64km) north Manhattan.

Stellantis (which now holds FCA US) did not immediately reply to our requests for comment. Weinstein’s attorney and a spokeswoman did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Weinstein (70) is currently serving a 23 year sentence in prison following his February 2020 conviction by a Manhattan jury for sexual assault.

The conviction was upheld by a New York State appeals court on Thursday

This case is still the most prominent in #MeToo’s movement to stop men from engaging in sexual misconduct.

Weinstein had back surgery on December 2019 and was able to walk during his trial.

On other charges of sex crime from 2004 to 2013, he faces trial in Los Angeles and has pleaded no guilty. Weinstein denied having had non-consensual sexual relations.
