Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

The index gained 0.7% and the NSE gained 0.74% at the closing.

The best performers of the session on the were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:), which rose 2.95% or 123.75 points to trade at 4,322.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd., NS:), added 2.76% (8.95 points) to reach 332.85 Reliance Industries Ltd (NSS:) rose 2.74%, or 74.70 Points to 2,798.75 during late trade.

They were also the worst performers of the session. Tata Steel Ltd (NS): fell 3.86%, or 41.90 point to trade at 1,044.85 by the close. Shree Cements Ltd. (NS) fell 1.96%, or 384.75 point to finish at 19,199.00 Tata Motors Ltd (NS): The decline in NS was 1.64%, or 7.15 points to 428.50.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:) which rose 3.00% to 4,326.10, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:) which was up 2.73% to settle at 2,798.60 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:) which gained 2.01% to close at 676.50.

Tata Steel Ltd.(BO:), which fell 3.81% to 1,045.35 late trade, NTPC Ltd. (“BO:”) which dropped 1.18% to settle in at 155.20, and UltraTech Cement Ltd. (“BO:”) which declined 0.93% to 5,481.80 by the close.

On the India National Stock Exchange, rising stocks outnumbered those in decline by 943-864, and 58 closed unchanged. The Bombay Stock Exchange saw 1695 rise and 1505 fall, and 123 closed unchanged.

ShreeCements Ltd.’s shares fell by 1.96%, or 384.75, to 19,199.00. UltraTech Cement Ltd. (BO:), shares fell to 52 week lows, falling 0.93% (5.35-5.481.80).

The index, which tracks the implied volatility for Nifty 50 options (the ), was lower by 3.52%, to 19.14, a new one-month low.

For August delivery, Gold Futures was lower by 0.30% (or 5.50) to $1.851.00 a troy-ounce. In commodities trading, crude oil delivery for July dropped 0.20%, or 0.24, to reach $121.87 per barrel. The August Brent oil contract, however, fell 0.1%, or 0.13, to trade at $123.45 per barrel.

USD/INR increased 0.03% to $77.22, while EUR/INR increased 0.16% at 83.36.

At 102.40, the US Dollar Index Futures fell 0.14%.
