Escaped Missouri inmate captured, two others remain on the run -Breaking

(Reuters) – A Wyoming county sheriff announced that one of the three Missouri inmates who escaped from a Missouri prison last week, by cutting holes into their plaster ceiling, was captured almost 1,000 miles away.

Christopher Blevins (37), was taken into custody in Casper, Wyoming on Wednesday. This is approximately 950 miles (1.530 km) north of Cassville jail, Missouri. He and Lance Stephens, 29 and Matthew Crawford, 29 respectively, escaped from there on Friday.

Officials told local media that the men made holes in their cell ceilings and then crawled up to a maintenance door leading outside. Officials didn’t provide information as to how long they had been away from their jail, which is located about 275miles (440 kms) southwest St. Louis.

Barry County Sheriff Danny Boyd stated that the men were friends and were dangerously armed. He said that there was no evidence the men received any assistance from other prisoners or jail staff.

Blevins, Stephens, and Crawford were held on drug and weapon charges. According to an online list of inmates, Crawford was also in jail for theft.

U.S. authorities have taken over the case. Marshals Service. Marshals Service representatives were not available immediately for comment.

Two months ago, an Alabama prison inmate managed to escape with the assistance of a female Corrections Officer. She died after suffering a gunshot wound that she had self-inflicted during an encounter with law enforcement.
