Best Buy is acquiring British health-care company Current Health

Best BuyOn Tuesday, Current Health announced that it would acquire the British tech company Current Health. Current Health specializes in remote patient monitoring and Telehealth.

No financial terms were disclosed. Best Buy believes the transaction will close within the financial year according to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

With the move, Best Buy is pushing further into health care — a sector that CEO Corie Barry frequently describes as a growth opportunity. The retailer is benefiting from several trends, including the desire for many baby boomers, to age at their own homes, and the need of the health-care sector to manage costs. She also highlighted the increasing popularity of watches, and other technology that monitors people’s health.

It already has businesses in this space. It acquired GreatCall in an $800 million deal2018 It makes simple-to-use mobile phones and connected devices for health and offers emergency response services to aging adults. It acquired another senior-focused company, Critical Signal Technologies, in 2019.

Best Buy shares traded up over 1% during premarket trades.
