Thomson Reuters launches $100 million venture capital fund By Reuters

REUTERS/Andrew Kelly (Reuters) – Thomson Reuters (NYSE:) Corp has launched a $100 million venture capital investment fund that will invest in companies in their early stages. It is designed to serve professionals in legal, tax, accounting and news media.
Named “Thomson Reuters Ventures”, the fund is part Chief Executive Steve Hasker’s plan to make Thomson Reuters a content-driven technology company.
This fund will be focusing on investments made by companies during Series A or Series B rounds.
Thomson Reuters’ Chief Strategy Officer Pat Wilburn stated that Thomson Reuters seeks to find companies that “deliver more value to its customers” – whether it be in machine learning or automating to increase efficiency.
Wilburn will be the executive director.
Thomson Reuters stated in August, that $700million remained of a $2B budget for mergers and acquisitions. Thomson Reuters stated that it has a strong pipeline of targets for areas like automation, small to medium cloud-based businesses and software-as services companies.
