LONDON (Reuters] – Britain’s plans for a green industrial revolution have already attracted billions in investment. The announcement was made by the government on Thursday, ahead of a London investment summit that will see some of the top financiers from around the world.
Data from government showed that 5.85 Billion Pounds ($8.01 Billio) in investment had been made since November 2020. This was when Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of Britain launched his 10-point plan to prioritize green technology and climate goals for Britain’s recovery from the COVID-19 epidemic.
This plan targets private investments of 42 billion pounds by 2030 in energy and buildings as well as innovation, transportation, natural environment, and creation of 250,000 jobs “green”.
Britain will promote its green credentials in preparation for hosting the COP26 U.N. conference on climate change next month in Glasgow. There, it will seek to make a multi-faceted international agreement that can halt global warming.
It also seeks funding to help the government gain an advantage in the race for capital to capitalize on the demand for greener technology, and highly-skilled, well-paid jobs that go with it.
With that in mind, Johnson will next Tuesday host top bankers including JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:) Chief Executive Jamie Dimon and Blackrock (NYSE:) CEO Larry Fink at an investment summit in London.
This event was attended by British royalty, ministers and industry leaders. It is intended to raise funds for projects that will help Britain achieve its climate goals.
