Fourteen U.S. attorneys general press Facebook on vaccine disinformation By Reuters

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The U.S. attorneys general sent a note to Facebook Inc (NASDAQ) Mark Zuckerberg, Chief Executive of the Company, asked whether top disseminators for vaccine disinformation have received any special treatment.

Frances Haugen (a Facebook whistleblower) discovered that Facebook had created a system to exempt high-profile users from certain or all of its rules.

On Wednesday the fourteen Democratic lawyers general sent the following letter. It stated that they were “extremely worried” about recent Facebook news reports that Facebook had maintained lists of people who received special treatment and wanted to learn if those “Disinformation Dozens” were on these lists.

According to The Center for Countering Digital Hate the “Disinformation Dough” is a group of 12 antivaxxers responsible for nearly two thirds of the anti-vaxxer content being circulated on social media.

Facebook didn’t immediately reply to our request for comment. The company previously stated it had introduced regulations against specific false claims concerning COVID-19 vaccines, and that the company provides reliable information to its users on these topics.

During the social media pandemic, COVID-19 disinformation proliferated on Facebook. Twitter Inc Alphabet (NASDAQ) Inc’s YouTube. Legislators and researchers long have accused Facebook for failing to enforce its policies regarding harmful content.

Joe Biden, the President of Social Media Platforms like Facebook said in July that misinformation regarding coronavirus vaccines was being posted to its platforms.

Haugen was a former product manager for Facebook’s civic misinformation group. The company left with thousands of confidential documents. Haugen called for transparency on how Facebook lures people to scroll and provides ample opportunity to advertisers to get them.

This letter was sent out by Connecticut’s attorneys general in Connecticut, California and Delaware.
