REUTERS/Joshua RobWASHINGTON (Reuters] – Andrew McCabe is a former FBI Deputy Director who was fired by President Donald Trump’s office in March 2018. He sued both the FBI and the United States for restoring his retirement benefits. McCabe’s lawyers reported on Thursday.
McCabe was fired right before McCabe was due to retire. Trump tried to block an investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 U.S. Presidential election.
McCabe made a mockery of Trump as the Russia probe progressed. McCabe, in turn, was criticised by Trump in media appearances.
“Politics should never play a role in the fair administration of justice and civil service personnel decisions,” McCabe said in a statement issued by Arnold & Porter, the firm that filed his wrongful termination lawsuit in August 2019.
Arnold & Porter said under the settlement, the U.S. government would rescind McCabe’s removal and deem him as having retired in good standing.
McCabe will also receive his entire retirement pension, as the firm indicated.
