(Reuters] – Spirit AeroSystems, (NYSE:), said Friday that it didn’t buy parts directly from an Italian supplier under investigation over defective parts in Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Instead, Spirit has taken steps to resolve issues with parts Spirit purchased indirect.

Boeing stated Thursday that some parts of the 787 Dreamliner had been improperly manufactured over the last three years. Manufacturing Process Specification (MPS) supplied them as a subcontractor to Leonardo in Italy.

Reuters reports that Boeing had warned Spirit not to use MPS-supplied parts in March.

Spirit announced Friday that Boeing sent communications to its supply chains, including Spirit, from March through July identifying potential defective parts back to 2017, according to Spirit.

Spirit responded to an emailed message that Spirit received from Boeing information identifying sub-tier suppliers using MPS. Spirit then took appropriate measures.

According to Reuters, Boeing requested Spirit to continue its audit of MPS in March.

Spirit, a Wichita-based company that makes planes, had asked the manufacturer to track any MPS components it used from 2017 to 2017. Spirit would then treat these parts as “suspect not conforming,” which means they would need to be checked again.
