WASHINGTON (Reuters] – Federal investigators have revealed that a Texas man has been charged with the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol riot. His supporters included former President Donald Trump’s supporters. The Texas suspect threatened to use violence against his son and daughter if they report Trump to them.

Guy Reffitt from Wylie in Texas faces five federal criminal allegations, including using and threatening to use physical force on his children and bringing weapons to the Capitol.

A pretrial hearing was held by U.S. district Judge Dabney Friedrich on Friday. Reffitt has been taken into custody in Washington, where he is awaiting his trial. Reffitt was stopped outside of the Capitol by police using pepper spray during the riot.

Prosecutors subpoena his daughter, son and wife.

According to the FBI, Reffitt told his son following the riot that “he’d do what he had” if he was reported to police. The son took this as threat to his own life. Reffitt also threatened to shoot his daughter’s cell phone.

According to the New York Times, Reffitt had told his 18-year old son: “You are a traitor.” Traitors get shot. Traitors get shot.”

Prosecutors have said Reffitt traveled to Washington with an AR-15 rifle and a Smith & Wesson .40 caliber handgun. His wife stated that Reffitt was a member the right-wing militia “Three Percenters”.

William Welch (defense lawyer) told the judge Reffitt would like to continue with his trial, which will begin Nov. 15. Despite the fact that the prosecution still has mountains of evidence.

They wanted to stop the official congressional recognition of Trump’s defeat in 2020.

Reffitt did not enter the Capitol. However, the prosecutors claim that he tried to charge at officers outside of the Capitol with non-lethal projectiles before they were able to stop him with pepper spray.
