Terje Bendiksby/NTB/via REUTERS OSLO (Reuters – Five Norwegians were killed last week in a small town. They were all stabbed and not shot with bow and arrows, as police initially believed.
In the 13th of October attacks on Kongsberg (a small town located 70km west from Oslo), four women and one male, between 52-78 years old, were both killed.
There were three other people who sustained injuries. One of them was an off-duty cop officer, who was also shot with the bow-and-arrow in the first phase.
The assailant appeared to then have dropped the weapon, according to investigators.
Per Thomas Omholt, a police inspector told a news conference that five people had been killed by stabbing guns.
He did not say whether the knives were larger or smaller weapons.
Omholt explained that “some were killed in their own homes and others outside,”
Police had stated that a man was “armed with” an arrow and bow when he committed the murders on Wednesday. The police later revealed that the killings were carried out with other weapons. Omholt was unable to explain the six-day delay in identifying which weapon had been used.
Witnesses described to Reuters their escape from the terror attack as they tried to save themselves.
Police last week identified the only suspect as Espen Andersen Braathen. The 37-year-old is thought to be mentally ill.
It was the deadliest attack in Norway since 2011 when Anders Behring Breivik, far-right extremist and far-right extremist killed 77 persons. Most of these were teenagers attending a youth camp.
